Taking the road less traveled is never easy. It requires determination, courage, and a deep commitment to follow your dreams. Ask Dr. Bruce Salzinger. He went to chiropractic college at the age of 38, and graduated when he was 41. He uprooted his family from New York, left his position as vice president in the family business (he was 3rd generation), and followed his passion to become a Doctor of Chiropractic. Fast forward to now, as he celebrates his 30th year as a chiropractor serving the Atlanta, Georgia community of Buckhead from the same location! Dr. Bruce is living proof for his patients that it’s never too late to make impactful, significant changes in your health and your life and start living your 100 Year Lifestyle!
The Story Begins
A born athlete, it wasn’t a complete surprise when Bruce got hurt competing as a downhill skier in college. He went the conventional medical route and recovered, only to find himself with another ski injury after college. This time the injury left him with severe pain in both legs that didn’t go away on its own. Again, he took the conventional medical approach with doctor visits, physical therapy, and muscle relaxers. Three months later, when nothing had worked, the next step appeared to be surgery.
However, just in time, a friend going to chiropractic school at New York Chiropractic College stepped in and explained to Bruce how chiropractic care could work effectively. He took the time to explain the principles and talked about the body’s innate intelligence and its ability to heal itself so long as the spine and nervous system are operating without interference. It made sense! So, Bruce got adjusted by his friend at the student clinic where he was practicing, and he followed his rehabilitation and lifestyle advice. Two to three months later, Bruce was better. His friend had graduated from New York Chiropractic College and had opened his practice in Florida.
A Wakeup Call
Bruce now realized the problems caused by spending an hour driving each day and working at a desk all day, every day. He continued to get adjusted by a local chiropractor regularly for the next couple of weeks. Remarkably, Bruce was walking without any problems, and without surgery! For him, it was a wakeup call! Although he had great respect for the family business, he knew his calling was chiropractic. He knew his experience had changed his life and he wanted to share it with the world!
Now married, when his children were at the age of three and six, he and his wife made the decision to leave his family’s well-established business and follow his passion. He had a clear vision of how he wanted to approach guiding his future patients with his vision of living a healthy lifestyle. He hadn’t been in school for 15 years, and it required quite an adjustment! To add to completely changing his routine, he was the oldest student in his class – by far. But he was determined and excited. Bruce graduated in 1993 – and never looked back!
Starting Practice
Dr. Bruce opened his health and wellness practice in the upscale neighborhood of Buckhead. Although the Buckhead community had access to the latest conventional medical care, he was committed to introducing them to the benefits of chiropractic care. With his magnetic personality and love of chiropractic, he enthusiastically opened his practice. Now, after 30 years, he still sees several of his original patients! He encourages his patients to live their ideal 100 Year Lifestyle!
After all these years, Dr. Bruce still enjoys helping people. Today, Chiropractic Healthcare of Buckhead includes two additional chiropractors. At age 72, Dr. Bruce still skis, bikes, hikes, runs, and plays pickleball. He’s had his share of bumps and bruises, as all athletes do, but he’s on no medications and still is as excited about chiropractic care as he was over 30 years ago.
Continuing on the Road Less Traveled
So, what’s next for Dr. Bruce? Well, he’s continuing to take the road less traveled. He’s thinking of adding teaching to his resume so he can share his knowledge and experience with up-and-coming chiropractors. Clearly, he’s still following his dreams and is still committed to his passion.
